How, I ask, can a busy shopper be expected to find local produce as oppossed to a similar product which can be purchased at any supermarket in the same chain. I challenge the supermarket marketing departments to find a way of enhancing their local image by making local produce a priority. This may be to the angst of some of the larger producers, but as a shopper I feel that we have a right to know, without too much effort on our part, where the contents of our basket have come from.
I wonder who will take up the challenge?

Keeping it local in the supermarkets

I had a lovely chat with Debbie from @debbieandandrews.co.uk waxing lyrical about their delicious sausages and where they can be purchased, several of the major supermarket chains stock @debbieandandrews and of course you can buy the on-line.
I later popped into my local @waitrose.com and met the store manager Leigh Ford. Sadly, due to the location, there is little if any casual trade; Low Street North Ferriby is a single lane, one way road off the beaten track, not easy to find if you don't know your way around. As a result Barry relies on locals to frequent his fishmongers shop which also sells fresh bread, preserves , oils and an array of other produce. I was really wanted to know how design can help us to improve this blog and our planned website. It was great to see that many of the examples of best practice, in advertising and design, were from the Yorkshire region and some of them we met at the Driffield show yesterday, in particular @debbieandandrews.co.uk whose sausages are totally 'yummy', I'm looking forward to eating their spicy Sicilian sausages this weekend. Back to the training course; It was very interesting and I came away with some useful pointers, however, me being a 'people person', I got a lot more value from the networking opportunity and met some terrific people. We had a chat about supporting M-A-W and enjoyed a lovely 'cuppa'. The shop sells a variety of locally sourced produce as well as cakes and bread made on the premises. All food eaten in the Tea Room is freshly made and promises to be delicious. I was delighted to meet a familiar face, Cheryl, (sister of the owner), who I knew 20yrs ago in a previous 'life', when I was pounding the beat on Beverley Rd Hull and she worked at the local Spar, it was a handy 'tea stop' and somewhere to get warm in the winter.
If you fancy some local fayre, in lovely settings it will be hard to beat, but I am informed that it best to book as they are very busy, in fact most of the tables were sporting reserved signs this morning.
Have a look at them @realyorkshire.co.uk, see the award from Real Yorkshire Tourism in the 'Best Cuppa catergory

New Pizzeria in Anlaby

Just had a pizza from Enzo Pizzeria in Anlaby. Courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes and the most amazing potatoes, varieties in red and white. Fresh food straight from fork to the table and shared with friends and family, you can’t beat it. Steamed the potatoes, served with a knob of butter and a twist of salt and black pepper. Courgettes added to meat on a kebab, crisp cucumber and juicy tomatoes in the salad, lovely. We are growing tomatoes for the first time, plenty of flowers on the plants so hopefully we will soon be picking ripe toms just outside the kitchen door, added to my fresh herbs, grown on the sunny windowsill, a little olive oil and some feta cheese, they will make a delicious salad. Rapeseed oil is a nice alternative with goats cheese supplied by Lowna Dairy, From Toms farm, just down the road.

Grandmothers cooking

Can you remember eating freshly cooked food, prepared by your Grandmother, from her own garden produce?
